Hi there! I'm a junior at Columbia University, studying Urban Studies and Architecture. I'm originally from Kansas City and DC, and just got back this fall from Reims, France, the capital of Champagne, where I studied Political Science for two years. I'm outgoing, energetic, and caring with kids, and react well in emergencies. I tutored kids of all ages throughout high school, so I'm great with homework help. I have a valid drivers' license and am happy to run errands. I love teaching kids to be responsible for themselves, instead of being overbearing and authoritative in telling them what to do and not to do. Throughout the last 20 years as a teacher and managing services for children with developmental disabilities in the department of health and department of education I have worked as a nanny.on the side for supplemental income. I have extensive experience with premature infants up to middle school children and with children on the spectrum, with ADHD or speech delays. I am well versed in the milestones a child should achieve and as a caregiver I implement age appropriate goals to make sure that I work with each child on all their domains of development including their cognitive, sociall, language, academic (if applicable) and physical; although safety is always my #1 priority. Working with children requires patience, empathy, being passionate about it and understanding that every child is different in their own way. I believe that good communication between parents and all caregivers is essential so that everyone is on the same page. As a mom myself I understand how difficult it can be specially for first time parents to separate from their child and feel like they are "missing out" or having a sense of guilt kick in and I'm here to make the process easier and provide ease.
