I am an occupational therapist by training and have worked with individuals of various ages and abilities, most recently at a school for children who have autism. I graduated from Penn State in 2022 with my bachelors degree in Elementary Education, I am also certified to teach pre k-4. I have been babysitting for younger children since I was 16 years old. I love working with children and feel quite comfortable with all ages of children. Also I have owned a dog my whole life and have watched and cared for many dogs in my neighborhood when my neighbors are away. A few summers ago I had the opportunity to work at the YMCA summer camp and had an amazing time working with all the children. I have all my certifications. Hello! My name is Abbie, I am 19 years old, and I have always seen the beauty in children. I wish I could tell you when I became passionate about childcare, but truthfully, I have always believed that I was born with it. My mom told me that I took my baby dolls everywhere I went as soon as I could walk and that I insisted on helping her take care of my newborn baby brother when I was 4. I could not wait until I was old enough to be a mother’s helper when I turned 10. I transitioned from regular babysitting in my early teens to daycare centers/preschools, where I gained professional experience as a state-certified daycare teacher caring for newborns in the nursery as well as bigger kids up to age 11. It was also during this time that I started nannying for a family with two girls (aged 10 years and 7 months). It was then that I was introduced to the rewarding universe of a baby born with Down Syndrome. While my primary focus is childcare, one of my other passions is expressing myself through art.
