Kelly is a terrific person with a great heart. My children loved her and she did a great job trying to learn about how to manage my diabetic son's type 1 diabetes. She took all of the training's that I set up and was even giving insulin adjustments!!
Here's the problem. Kelly has a very difficult time with actually showing up consistently. She was chronically ill, weather it was a backache, foot ache, heart ache, feeling nauseous or a cold. She called in sick at the last minute at least 10 times in the short amount of time she worked for us. She even called in sick the night we had theatre tickets and stuck us with $150 of tickets that went to waste. I only continued to give her chances because my kids loved her so much and she really is a great person. I talked to her once and for all after the "theatre incident" and she promised me she would not call in sick again. This last Monday she called in sick when I had arranged for her to care for my kids so I could attend a work training. That was the end for us.
While we loved Kelly, it was impossible to keep her as our nanny because I always had to have a "Plan B", assuming she would "no show". In addition, no matter how many times I asked, my house was trashed when I came home and she was always in a hurry to get out of here so I ended up cleaning up after the mess she and my kids made. I even explained that it was her job to require my kids to clean up after themselves. She didn't seem to have the authoritative ability to be the one in charge. I often overheard her telling my kids she felt "nauseous" when they would ask to go to the park or to play outside. While she would usually take them, I was worried how much attention they were getting.
I will say again that Kelly is a very sweet and kind-hearted person. My children and I loved her and were devastated to have to let her go. But a consistent nanny is essential. So my advice to anyone looking, beware that you may end up needing to have a "Plan B" with Kelly.

Provider's Response

In this time in my life I was battling with chronic fatigue an a weak immune system. I also nannied for my first family that was priority. I nannied for an RN nurse 8days a month 14hr shifts as well, however I will say that when I became a nanny for you I was not aware that you has the swine flu an did not tell me. I suffered for 3mths with this horrible virus having to go to the ER for treatment because I had a hard time breathing with the whooping cough. I would say yes I was very upset that I got this virus from your family. I loved the kids, but nannying for a child with asberger an autism with diabetes was quite a challenge for me. Though beautiful kids that I loved to care for, it was very challenging with the circumstances. I have since then gotten very healthy, taking online classes at a holistic school to get certified as a holistic health coach outside of being a loving nanny. I loved the experience with your family, but it just wasn't a good fit for me at the time along with 2 other families I was nannying for.
