Mary Kate’s Bio

I have been nannying over a decade. I have worked part time, full time, and on as needed basis such as date night or temp care.

I have worked every circuit you can think of: Vacation Bible School, church camp counselor as well as at private school for a summer program. I was an Au Pair for a family in Ireland for six months, worked for a babysitting agency in Memphis for 4 years, 1.5 years in Saint Louis and now here in Arlington (Metropolitan Nannies) in addition to Sitter City which I have been part of since 2007.

Sitter City has me on their on-demand sitter service called HelloChime. Out of 5 nannies they interviewed; only 1 gets qualified and I am one of them. For more info on me + reviews + video, please see the link.

I work independently mainly as a word of mouth nanny with no committed schedule to one family. However, I have many families that use me on a regular basis when they need the extra assistance or have me committed to long term gigs for temp use sometimes even spanning for 6 months.

Childcare is an ongoing learning experience because I am presented with the opportunity to interact with so many different types of families that are so diverse. Whether it is in culture, religious beliefs, or just the upbringing of their children, I get to see it all and I feel it educates me. I love learning and teaching children or even learning from children that I sit for.

I enjoy nannying all types of children aging from only a few days to teens. I do not have a problem babysitting special needs children; my eldest stepbrother has Cerebral Palsy, and I assisted in taking care of him while growing up, so I can relate to the challenges of the day to day tasks it takes.

A few of my qualifications are from the first part of my Bachelor's education was in Early Childhood Education emphasis for the first 2.5 years of my undergrad. I changed it to Non-Profit Mgmt a little bit later when I got involved with St. Jude.

I love animals and have no problem being around them or assisting with them. I do not smoke nor do I have any allergies that prohibit me from work in all types of environments. I am CPR/AED certified, and I have my own transportation which is good for running kids around to different activities.

Please do note if you do book me, and you need to cancel; I require a 24 hours notice and if not completed -- I will be owed half of the gig's wage for the planned time I was booked.

We really liked Mary Kate. She was prompt, friendly, cleaned up after their lunch, and Colin has already asked when she was coming back.

Provider's Response

Colin and Lily were so much fun. They are really sweet and are well behaved.

Mary Kate came over at the last minute to sit for me. She was attentive and took notes about my son's schedule. She is flexible with her hours and communicates well. She also takes direction well. I would definitely ask her to sit for me again!

Provider's Response

I love watching Jacob! He is such a sweet boy, and it is always a privilege to see him smile. Rachel is a wonderful hands-on mother who is very involved with her son. It's nice to see how much she loves her baby boy!

Mary Kate was very responsive to my questions prior to hiring her. She arrived on time and asked very appropriate and insightful questions about our routine and the needs of our children (aged 2 & 4). My son was crying when we left and she managed that situation, redirecting and distracting him as we made our getaway. She followed the bedtime routine, as reported by my son the following morning.

I highly recommend Mary Kate.

Super short notice savior

Mary Kate responded to my last minute emergency child care request at lightning speed and provided a half-day of great care for our five-year-old, who had been sent home from school with a tummyache. She asked all the right questions before my rushed departure and kept me updated with relevant information throughout the day. She's a pro and a great communicator, and I would ask her to babysit again in a heartbeat.

Great Sitter!

Mary Kate did a great job watching our two kids (ages 2.5 years and 4 months). It was our first night out since my son was born. Mary Kate was friendly, punctual, and even spent time talking with me afterwards about questions I had regarding sleep training and potty training.

Awesome Mary Kate!

Mary Kate is wonderful! She watched after my 5 month old daughter for a week while I was in DC for a job, and really went above and beyond what I would expect from a babysitter! First, my daughter decided while I was traveling that she would no longer take a bottle (she takes one fine at home!). So nothing about her routine or behavior was really predictable during the week she was in Mary Kate's care. (FYI, my daughter would not take a bottle from anyone during my stay in DC, not from familiar caregivers, or even myself! So it was nothing that Mary Kate was doing wrong, just a phase my daughter went through!) Mary Kate took it upon herself to do some research into the problem, suggested and even offered her a few different types of bottles to see if something would work. When none of those options worked, Mary Kate fed her some preliminary solids at my request, which with a five month old just starting food is no easy task! And she even brought the baby to me at work so she could at least nurse properly once or twice a day, which helped immensely to get through those challenging days. To top if all off, Mary Kate even came to the rescue when the car I was using got a flat tire! She's a superhero. Mary Kate, thanks so much for taking such great care of Carolina! Just so you know, we are home now and she is taking bottles again as if it was never an issue. Kids. :-)
