Hello! I have about 5 years experience working with children. I started working with kiddos when I was about 14 years old. I started with watching my younger cousins and helped in my local church. In high school I was in an early childhood education class for three years. Two of the years I was a TA. In this class we had a running preschool. I helped all the students come up with lesson plans to teach the children. I also helped my teacher with other duties. My senior year I got a job as a preschool teacher and worked part time after I got out of school. I was a preschool teacher for about two years, and for about six months I worked as a resource teacher. I also babysat on weekends and other instances for a few families I knew. I have experience with ages 0-12 years. I absolutely LOVE working with children and their families as well. I believe having a relationship with not only the child/children I may be working with, but also the parents/ guardians is very important. Hello parents! 😁 I’m a proud mother of five children, three ladies and two fellas, ages 20 to 27. In 2022, I became a Grammy to each a girl and a boy and another grandson came along in 2024. Twelve years ago, I earned a Master’s degree in Education and have over seven years of teaching experience in public education at both the high school and middle school levels. In my early years of motherhood, I operated in-home daycares for infants to pre-school aged children. I have taught and assisted many times in church Sunday School classes (nursery to high school) and have led and assisted with Vacation Bible School (nursery to high school). I have also led and assisted with youth groups and activities to include attending week-long summer camps and weekend retreats. I’m a divorcee of a retired serviceman. For those military families reviewing my profile, I’m very familiar with life in the military and the challenges that are presented along the journey. Thank you for your dedication and service! Needless to say, I have a genuine love for children of all ages and enjoy teaching and nurturing them; helping each one grow and learn to be the unique person they are created to be. Activities I take pleasure in are walking, reading, crafting, healthy eating, spending time in the kitchen and listening to music (dancing to the music, as well, even if someone is watching!). I have lived in Virginia Beach for most of my life.  I have over 35 years of childcare experience including 6 full time summers, 4 years of teaching at a local day care, and years of working in my church nursery.  In college, I majored in Psychology and Early Childhood Education. I have been trained in CPR for over 30 years and I was a certified CPR & 1st Aid Instructor for over 6 years.  I have worked with multiples in the past as well as children with ADD/ADHD, Autism, Down Syndrome.  Also, my son has had asthma, allergies, mild ADD, and Tourette's Syndrome and has had respiratory problems since he was 6 weeks old so I am well versed in dealing with a variety of issues. I am available on weeknights after 4:30pm and weekends. I am open to occasional overnight care at your home.  I am a Virginia Beach school employee so when school is closed, I am usually available as well.
