Diego’s Bio

My name is Diego and I am 29 years old. I am a nanny with 10 years of childcare experience. I have 5 years of experience as a live-out, and 4 years as a live-in . As a nanny, I have been providing absolute care for children in the family's home. I have taken care of children from 1-month-old to 10 years old. I am also taking classes in pursuit of a degree in Global Affairs at George Mason University. I am CPR and First Aid Certified (2010). I am a believer that the nanny is the mirror for the children he is caring for. Therefore, in my childcare style, I set a good example for the child whom I am working with. I always try to be funny and friendly while showing the children what is right from wrong. The most important thing is to help the children understand what is expected but in a way that they understand the situation. I am an upbeat person and I enjoy interacting with children doing activities like: swimming, bike riding, reading books, skating, and coloring. I also execute every duty that is related to the well being of the children. In order to promote a pleasant, safe, and healthy atmosphere for the children, I took my job very seriously and professionally. As a nanny, you can rely on me because I am responsible, hardworking, and hands-on. Thank you so much for your consideration. I am looking forward to hearing from you and your family.

Diego has been working for us full-time since June. He is extremely hard-working, responsible, patient, and pleasant. Our 2-year-old son loves him for being caring, fun, and funny, and he also respects him for disciplining him appropriately and helping him learn new skills. Diego is very attentive to our son's needs, while always remaining calm and maintaining a great sense of humor, even in the most frustrating situations. What I find remarkable is that he can really empathize with people, whether it be our son, us, or his grandparents, who live abroad and who our son "talks" to on skype every day. Diego is flexible with our work and social schedule and always respectful in his interactions with us. He is always willing to "go the extra mile" to do a good job.

Diego sat with our two boys (ages almost 4 and 16 months) on Saturday and he was great! He filled in for our regular sitter at the very last minute and was extremely helpful. He played with both boys--play-doh, coloring, outdoor sports etc. My youngest ended up with a slight fever that morning and Diego handled it wonderfully--calling me when he was concerned that the baby wasn't drinking enough. I would recommend Diego to anyone and hope that he is able to come and sit for our boys again soon.

Diego was our nanny for almost a year. He abruptly quit without notice on 18May2012. Stating he found a job he couldn't turn down and he needed to look out for himself. He was great for the first 6 months then he became more interested in his personal/social life than his job.

Provider's Response

Unfortunately I had to part with the family due to many different instances where I was put in uncomfortable situations. I was shorted pay that was for my schooling, gas money that was owed for transporting the child in my personal vehicle twenty-five minuets both ways to school. When I asked about money I was met with anger and misunderstanding. I was available for the family all hours of the week and weekend for six months while her husband was deployed over seas. The deal was when he came back I would have my weekends free unless notified in advance. When the Father came back I was met with a curfew during the week and I was to be on call all the time even during my one day off Saturday. I was also to be home Sunday by 9pm. I informed the family after one week shy of a year that I was going to move out. There was no room for discussion about how to work things out until the found of a new babysitter as I was instructed to leave the house immediately. I was also told that I was not going to receive my pay for the last week I worked. When I replied you cant do that the families response was “sue me”. Later I was notified to pick up my payment after they had found they were breaking Maryland State Law by not paying me for the hours that I had worked.
