After leaving the banking world I married a long time friend and we adopted a 10 yr old from Foster Care in Roanoke Va, she graduated Ocean Lakes High School and now works as a teachers assistant. My husband Mark and I took 81 hours of training for child care, childhood trama, special needs, multi family raising, and "NAMI" mental health training. In order to become Foster Parents you have to pass a background check, multiple home checks, and after approved continued home checks. I have the certificate of approval from Roanoke County Social Serves for Foster Care for up to 5 children. We also had to be CPR certified. We had our great great niece came to live with us 7/2017 she was 12 lbs at 1 yr old and Dr said failure to thrive. She and her Dad lived with us until 1/2019. She was above weight, height, physical fitness when they were able to move out. The father and mother learned parenting and child safety. I was a nanny for a 4 month old for a Navy Master Chief 8 months and they were transferred. For the last 8 months I have been a nanny for a Navy JAG Lawyer and his wife; whom is a Doctor at Sentara. They have 4 children 4, 3, 2, 11 months. Mostly caring for the youngest two but all when schools closed or children sick. Mother-in-law came to live with them so I am available. I most recently was employed with VCOM Sports and Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA as a Certified Nursing Assistant and was with them for 18 months prior to temporarily moving to Boiling Springs Lakes, NC. In this practice I had hands on experience with adults (young and old), children, and Infants. I have two nieces whom I have sat for since they were infants and I have also sat for friends who have children whose ages have ranged from newborn-5 years old. I moved out to LA after graduation where I was a professional nanny for 11 years. I first started working with celebrity families and then had the opportunity to train with special needs children and their families in the behavioral health department at Cedars Sinai Hospital in LA. My husband and I left the city when we started our own family 12 years ago. I have many years experience with families and children with special needs. I am a trained ABA therapist. I have worked with multiples. I am trained to use nebulizers, epipens, trained in seizure first aid, (currently up to date on all CPR certifications and Covid protocols.) I've been a newborn care provider (my own included), and been part of early child development and infant intervention programs within centers, home programs and schools. I've worked at summer camps. I have French family and speak french. My husband is from Argentina so I speak some Spanish, and there is certainly bit of a language jumble going on at family get togethers😊. I think my strength is having patience and finding joy, fun and delight in the little things children do, so I love my job! It could be seeing a 10 year old feeling awesome because they crushed me at Monopoly, a 5 year old 300% involved in building a marble roller coaster, and as a mom, I totally appreciate the quiet peace of little infant snores. I like to swim, bike ride, enjoy sports and arts and crafts. I am used to travelling with families and finding ways to occupy and enrich the childrens' hours without using screens, while in a limited environment e.g. hotel room. My undergraduate degree was in Theater and I love to bring that creativity and humor to my work. I have spent many overnights with infants and children. Worked for a few years within the public school system. I am trained in RIE and infant care. I'm a sophomore at Virginia Tech, majoring in psychology! I have been babysitting and nannying for various families in my hometown for 5 years now, and I love being around kids and caring for children of all ages. Most of my jobs have been for families in my neighborhood and community. Although I have not worked professionally for a babysitting agency in the past, I am well-qualified and experienced to care for children. I am Red Cross certified and have completed CPR training, so you can be confident knowing your child will be safe under my care. This past summer, I spent time nannying for two separate families, one with a 10-year-old and one with a 10-month-old, so I have a wide range of skills when it comes to all ages.
