My name is Mary, and I am a 31 year old St. Louis native and current South Bend resident seeking to establish a few steady relationships with local families for occasional, as-needed babysitting opportunities. I adore taking care of and interacting with kids, so for me, babysitting is as much a job as it is an incredibly personally enriching opportunity. A little about me: I have a BA degree in English and Russian Studies from Saint Louis University, and I currently run my own freelance writing business, am working on getting into grad school at Notre Dame to pursue an MFA, and am writing a novel! Language, learning, books, writing, and people are some of my primary loves, so, in these babysitting opportunities, I am seeking to expand both my work and personal experience by applying my "loves" in a practical manner--for example, by reading to your children, or by helping them with some of their language arts homework. Some of my long-term goals involve exploring English/ESL tutoring, pursuing various language certifications (such as the TESOL/TEFL), and doing creative writing professionally, so I believe these babysitting prospects have the great potential to be a mutually beneficial connection for the both of us. That being said, I'm not just about school and homework! I love playing games with kids and seeing how their imaginations expand just by having fun. I believe in engaging kids' creativity in a variety of ways (especially beyond the gadgets world!)--for example, with story games, board games, outdoor games, coloring, and, frankly, anything we can dream up on the fly! I'm as comfortable playing princesses as I am super heroes, and I'm at ease around kids of all ages (I'm the oldest of six kids, so to say I'm used to working with different creative styles is at best an understatement. :)). I have experience taking care of everyone from infants to teenagers, so I'm just as composed changing a diaper as I am bonding with a 7th grader about the pressures of middle school. That diversity of encounter is a huge part of why I love working with kids. Lastly, I've been babysitting in varying degrees since I was 12 years old, and my greatest joy is getting to know the families I've worked for. Happy to provide references if needed!
