At the time i graduated from TSU there was nothing in my field that i had studied for but Daycare centers & Fast food restaurants. My bills had to b paid & so i applied for jobs in both industries.I worked for OTLK Nash. where i was an Infant Teacher Creepers & Crawlers & i worked at The Ole Spaghetti Factory as a Prep person & a line cook. I love both jobs. They were totally different & i met a lot of wonderful people.My job & OTLK Nash. the babies were so different where there were infants w/& without disabilities.This was the first time i've worked with this population of children & it was a great learning experience. There were infants w/ Down Syndrome, We had a child that was on a heart monitor, where that was chaos but organize chaos. That machine seems to have gone off every 30-45min. & with that we had different people coming to the room to make sure that the infant was ok b/c everyone assumed that the child stop breathing but it was a glitch in the machine.There was a child that had a feeding tube, where the infant had to b bolus fed using a syringe. We also had an infant that was hydrocephalus, and had to have a shunt put in their head.. Truly it was a learning experience. As far as working at the ole spaghetti factory u wouldn't realize that so many people love spaghetti as much as we served. I made clam sauce, i rolled trays & trays of meatballs , i made the blue cheese dressing using the molded cheese that had a awful smell but was a delicious dressing. i prep the salad, cutting & shredding, the carrots, purple cabbage, and I made gallons & gallons of tea. When it was time to open i worked the line, either making the plates of cooking the tenderloins. i'm sure with the time i spent @ both jobs i could go back to both.

I love being a sitter because kids truly bring me so much joy. They’re honest, full of energy, and so fun to be around. Caring for children is also my way of serving the Lord and using the gifts He’s given me. I have a lot of experience working with children of all ages. I’ve worked at a gymnastics gym where I coached various age groups, and I helped raise my younger brother until he was about five years old. My name is Cathy and I have been working with children for over 30 years. My grandmother was the director of the First United Methodist Nursey School in Santa Monica, California where I would spend days playing and reading to children starting at the age of 13. I nannied for 6 month old twins in the summer of my junior year of high school and for two older children full time the following summer. In college I worked at Greenlake After School Program in Seattle as a teaching assistant for ages 5-12 years my junior and senior years. In the summers during college I traveled back to California where I worked again at the nursery school as a teacher for the three year old group. My responsibilities included playground supervision, art and reading activities, lunch prep and nap time supervision. I graduated from the University of Washington and moved to Spokane where I worked at the YMCA in the three year old room and substituted in the infant room frequently. I married into the military and had three children of my own who are now in their teens. We have all frequently helped watch children of our military friends and still help babysit as well as pet sit/ foster. I have been certified in first aid and CPR numerous times and can provide references upon request. Put simply, I love being around children! They are such a joy and I find happiness in helping provide a safe and nurturing environment for them to learn and grow. I respect their feelings and feel confident in my ability to provide a routine with structure, yet can adjust to their needs if the occasion arises with patience and care.

I am a very recently retired speech- language pathologist with years a years of experience working with children from infancy through adulthood. I have experience working with children who have special needs including autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit disorder, and physical limitations. I raised my own child who has ADHD and high-functioning autism, in addition to being an auntie to a niece who has autism and cerebral palsy and a nephew who has Aspergers. I also know sign language quite well and have used it in a professional capacity. As a former public schools employee, I have been background checked and fingerprinted and I’m happy to provide references! I truly love working with children and their parents.
