I started babysitting when I was 10 and just kept going. I babysat all through college and even during my career as a teacher. I have worked with children in three ways: babysitting, tutoring, and being an elementary school teacher and media specialist. I even taught at the graduate school level which was very interesting and entertaining as the adults complained more about homework than my fifth graders! I enjoy children and I respect their idiosyncrasies and personalities. With this in mind, I have experience with children who are gifted and talented and as well as those who are on the autism spectrum. Not every babysitter has that experience nor is comfortable with children on the spectrum or gifted. I enjoy doing crafts and especially baking with the children I babysit. My pizza parties are very popular! It’s important we have fun together but also learn life skills in the process. I adore reading to children and believe that reading should bookend our day together. My past experiences with childcare include the summer I was a sleep-away camp counselor in Michigan and taught children ages 8-16 how to sail, tie-dye, and shoot black and white photography! I also have had experience babysitting children aged 0-14 in many different settings. One summer I was a nanny to an adventurous 7 year old boy back home in Virginia. We would go hiking, swimming, to the library, and on play dates with his friends. Most recently I have babysat my cousins (girls ages 13 and 8) and have been taking care of them since they were born!
