I have 11 years of experience as a caregiver for my father who had a stroke at 73. He had memory issues and was partially paralyzed on his right side. I helped him move into assisted living and then moved to his hometown to help oversee his care. I had lunch with him several times a week, took him on numerous outings in the community, sat with him at his apartment to watch TV, and took him on road trips from San Diego to Boston. (I could get his wheelchair folded and in the trunk in a matter of seconds!) I learned a lot about patience and compassion over those 11 years.
