In 2006 I became a caregiver after my grandmother had a major stroke durimg hip surgery which caused her dementia to go from mild to severe. I worked 40 plus hours per week until 2010 when I became her 24/7 live-in caregiver which I did until my mother moved in when she retired in 2014. I have always been a caregiver at heart, I just never realized how much I enjoyed taking care of elderly people and helping them live as independently as possible. I have had the privilege of working with several families since realizing my passion. First was a vibrant & feisty 75 year old woman with severe dementia who taught me so much in a very short time. After her sudden passing I was hired to care for a sweet lady who impressed me with her big blue eyes and even bigger heart! She was very particular about how things were done and would sometimes ask about the same thing repeatedly about something that to anyone else would seem minor, but it was important to her and therefore it was important to me. You knew she was satisfied with your answer if she responded with "good girl!"

I took care of her until her passing and then continued working for her family taking care of her husband who has Parkinson's. He gave me anew outlook on caregiving and the different aspects involved when you care for a couple and how to be a caregiver and help the survivor cope with losing their spouse, best friend and partner in crime! .

I feel that I am always placed exactly where I am needed most and each day my mission is to make their day the best it can possibly be and to know that they still matter!
