I am committed, energetic, and a real go getter.

I have more than 6 years of experience working with and around adults and seniors needing a wide range of care and assistance. I value all people as individuals and believe that each person deserves to have a rich, fulfilling life. For example, when a participant who is Autistic was brought in by his mother on a trial basis, I saw he was sitting in a room all alone, so I asked permission from my supervisor to go be with him. I spent the rest of his day playing games, painting, having lunch with, and just talking to him even though he never muttered a word. He is now going to the program on a daily basis and interacts with others. This experience, along with many others, makes me certain that I have picked the right career path. I completed my AA in Allied Health Science on December 2014, and now I plan to earn my BA in Gerontology to better help others like I helped this participant.

In addition to my professional experience, I have a sister with developmental disabilities and have been the primary caregiver for several family members for many years. I have learned not to take life for granted, to help those less fortunate, and to be their voice when warranted. My experiences give me lots of respect for those who have challenges every day. I am passionate about working with others to help enrich their lives as they enrich mine, and I am confident that I can become a valuable asset to your program. “We don’t do things to pass the time, we fill the time with meaningful things.”
I am attentive to detail, a great listener, and a very caring and giving person. I don’t just view working with adults with developmental disabilities as a job—rather, it is my passion to help others.
