My name is Jaime Adamo, I'm 26 years old and a college graduate in the field of Human Services, with a minor in Therapeutic Recreation. I worked hard since I was able to get a job (at the age of 16). I saved my own money and put myself through school, paid for my education with NO student loans, and worked incredibly hard to get the experience I have today.

In high-school I wasn't sure what I wanted my college major to be. My senior year came (in the blink of an eye) and I had to do some soul searching - What would be fulfilling to me? What field is most in demand for my generation? What field would match with my personality type and stamina? Questions I asked myself many evenings before I actually graduated,

In high-school there was a student that I became fast friends with who has down-syndrome - still communicate till this day. None the less, we'd sit together at lunch, we'd socialize about all our favorite bands (she knew all the lyrics to every song - word for word), I'd help her get to her classroom, we'd talk for long hours over the phone about boys and all of those other normal things that teenagers do. My friendship with her changed my life, and gave me a wider - more sensitive perspective on life. Not many people cared to socialize with her and more often than not - she was severely mistreated by other students.

As I was debating what I wanted to do with my future, I thought of what I gained from high-school - what studies I enjoyed most, what classes were capable of holding my interest - Psychology and Art. Needless to say, as I was debating what to do next, I thought of my friendship with her, and the courses that I was interested in and that's when I truly realized - perfectly clear - what I wanted to do with the rest of my life here on this earth (which I do consider to be precious/something to not take for granted).

It's then that I decided to get into the field of Human Services once I enrolled in Middlesex Community College. I always cared about people and felt that I could communicate with other individuals (from all walks of life) on a very human/empathetic level - which, I always appreciated/appreciate when people have been capable of doing that for me, so I knew I wanted to be one of those people that could share that same experience and level of genuine care.
