I have always had the desire to help others in any way possible. A little over 4 years ago I was given the opportunity to help an elderly women battling breast cancer, dementia, and limited mobility. I would spend the weekends with her, starting her morning routine getting her out of the bed and to the bathroom to bathe, followed by breakfast, giving medications, and small talk. Although, she couldn't remember our conversations/days due to her illness I tried to make the best each and every minute. Seeing her comfortable and laughing was heart warming. Trying to stimulate her mind as much as possible was important to me. Our daily activities consisted of short walks, coloring activities, children's stories, picking out night clothes, mani/pedi, and much more. She was restricted to the wheel chair 90% of the time. However, she was able to communicate when she needed to use the restroom. She has recently passed and is no longer suffering from her illnesses. She is greatly missed.
