At 15 years of age I first experienced caring for our elder population. I volunteered at a nursing home where my mother worked. I quickly developed a deep admiration, love and respect for these individuals who had experienced so much and were open to sharing that experience with me.

Since then I have purposely chosen to help various people because my heart leads me to do so. Last August I spent an entire week at Advent Hospital with my dear friend Jewel (I promised I would not leave her side and I did not) after we learned her oxygen level was too low. What was supposed to be a fun shopping date quickly became an emergency room visit and exactly one week until her time in this life would end. My Jewel was a very young 94 years old and I still miss her terribly. I miss our 'doctor dates' when I would take her to her appointments and then we'd have lunch or go shopping afterwards.

I worked at Lakeview Terrace in Altoona for a year or two. Although I was in transportation, I used personal time to help some residents with whatever I could. For instance, Marjorie was legally blind and having trouble differentiating her medications. After work one day, I went to her apartment and adapted her medicine bottles with textured shapes to indicate when to take them. Her gratitude was more than thanks enough.

I currently help the beautiful grandmother of my son's friend. She has a multitude of health problems requiring meds that make her demeanor changeable. She has the heart of an angel and the fortitude of a warrior. She is my friend and it is my pleasure to be able to help.

As far as training, I had some basic classes at Lakeview about special needs and characteristics as we age. I have lots of experience in caring for aging family and friends. I used to have a current CPR and First Aid but they have expired. I am willing to get them again.

I am willing to negotiate pay with regards to distance, expectations and other variables.
