We hired Cindy and two of her relatives for a week of babysitting while we were on vacation with 8 kids. They seemed perfect- good judgement, creative and loving and very trustworthy. The kids all worshiped them. We were so relieved and they made our trip great. We were ready to book them for next year and give big tips for great work (we had worked out the salaries in advance.) They asked for their checks a day early so that they could deposit them before Christmas. Considering the trust and the situation we agreed and gave them their payment. They left for their break and were supposed to be back at 6pm. Cindy texted at 5:45 to say they were running late and then we never heard from them again. They ignored texts and didnt answer the phone. We were frantic thinking something terrible had happened to them and the kids were sobbing and hysterical bc they were so attached and connected after a loving and special week. Aftet a few hours we finally realized that they had received our checks and ghosted. It have never had an experience like this before and it was incredibly shocking and painful. I have no idea what was really going on there, but I really hope they are all okay.
