I have never formally been paid to be a companion. One of my dearest friends is 27 years older than me. We've been meeting weekly for 16 years to play scrabble, watch a show, go for a walk or out to eat. At my current job I very much enjoy visiting with older patients who are lonely, and hurting (sometimes physically and also emotionally). I have the time at this stage in life to offer companionship and encouragement. I am happy to tidy things up, go for a walk, run errands, prepare a light meal, play scrabble, work on a puzzle, watch a program or read a book with a new friend .
