Hello my name is Candace Perry, I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa but moved to New York. I lived in New York for many years and it was these past 2 years I began working with various individuals. I began working with Individuals with disabilities in their home placement settings, where I was employed as a Direct Support Staff, and also had a position working as a Lead Direct Support Staff.
I than began working with elderly individuals in their homes, I worked a few different cases. Some of which include an individual who had Dementia, another who was blind, and I also did a Hospice case and that individual was a stroke patient, she was blind, and unable to move around. My tasks included household duties such as cooking and cleaning, laundry, yard work, assisting with toileting, bathing, and dressing. Ensuring they take their medication, some errands, and just keeping the individuals company. I would play games with them, read, go on walks, etc.
I have personal experience with Individuals with disabilities as both my sister and my grandmother both have disabilities. I offer a helping hand, assisting them when they need it.

Working with Individuals is nice because a bond is formed, and they become like family to you. All of the people I have worked for in the past have had a spot in my heart, I did not look at them as just an individual but looked at them as if they were family.

I enjoy working with people, just being able to help people and put a smile on their face makes me happy. I enjoy talking to people, and learning new things in general but also about the individuals I work with as well. For me, knowing I can offer companionship to someone, and assist them in making their lives easier is very fullfilling.
