Hi! I have been caring for an 80 year old gentleman who had lung cancer, CHF, and other medical concerns. Responsibilities included medication management, meal preparation, taking him to doctors appointments, bathing, dressing, and any other daily activities that were required. Sadly, he passed away and now I am looking for a new caregiving position. I have over 8 years experience caring for someone with Alzheimer's/Dementia. For the last year I have cared for a lovely 95 year old lady with congestive heart failure, dementia, and other ailments that often accompany a 95 year old person. Responsible for fixing and feeding her her meals, transporting to and from appointments, changing her (as she was incontinent), medication management, bathing, mobility, stayed with her for lengthy periods while the family has been out of town on vacation, and working with Hospice through the end of life.
My 5 year position before this was caring for a lovely lady with Parkinson's and dementia but her living arrangements changed so that left me looking for another care giving position. I was responsible for her medication management, meal preparation and feeding, picking up items at the store as needed, bathing (including hair washing), incontinence care, playing games (she loved playing scrabble),reading to her, she loved to watch The Waltons and movies from her era.
Before caring for my lovely lady I cared for my father in our home for 5 years, he had Alzheimer's. I have extensive experience caring for a family member who is suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's. I have this last year cared for a kind 95 year old gentlemen (evenings and weekends part time) he was bed ridden and his family didn't like for him to be alone so I kept him company so they were able to attend their son's sporting events, go to the Royals game, etc. In caring for someone I believe they should be treated with love and ensuring their dignity is always maintained. I will care for your loved one as if they are my mother or father. I know how important it is to be able to depend on your caregiver!
