In addition to being a Nanny for ten years. I was my mothers primary caregiver for nearly fifteen years after she became ill. I was also a caregiver to an elderly gentlemen who suffered from Alzheimer's and Dementia. I took care of his meals, medication, grocery shopping ,cleaned house, laundry,mowed his grass, paid his bills and took him to all his appointments(doctors, dentist, barber,etc.) . We played checkers everyday, went for walks and drives. Anything to keep him from being depressed. Because it is so common in the elderly . Especially those with dementia . We had days that were difficult because he sometimes forgot conversations we had just had. But he became my best friend . And I miss him everyday. I stayed with him until the end . I was with him when he took his last breath. It was one of the hardest days of my life. But I m so thankful he had someone there with him in the end that loved him. And he wasn't alone.
