I began companion/personal care several years ago. My first actual experience was with my grandmother who was diagnosed with dementia then Alzheimer’s. I cared for here on and off in order to give my mom a break. I helped with her medication, personal care (shower/bath, bathroom assistance).She also had mobility issues so she needed to be watched and assisted with any and all physical movement she did. Also took her to her medical appointments and shopping .
My latest client also had dementia. I did all of the above also including light cleaning ie; dishes, vacuuming, change of linens , sweeping kitchen floor etc. I showered and shampooed her everyday, picked out her outfit for the day , helped her dress and fix her hair. Our days consisted of playing cards, doing puzzles, crosswords or binge watching a series on Netflix. Unfortunately she began to decline so her family decided to put her in a assisted living residence. I loved her dearly and miss her every day!!
