I’m a 54 year old single mother of twin college aged daughters. Once they both left for school out of state I became a Hospice Companion Volunteer for both Washington County and Frederick County, MD. Both of my parents died within a short time of each other after long and difficult illnesses up in New Jersey while my girls were still in HS down here. Because of all of their activities, I did not get to spend very much time with either of my parents and have always regretted that. While I Was with them I found a deep compassion within myself and a desire to provide personal care for others with dignity and respect. I think my experiences with them, and with hospice, has opened my heart in a way that allows me to bond with people and to bring them some peace and genuine happiness during times of illness or frailty.
