I took early retirement in order to care for my elderly parents for 2 1/2 years. My sister and I shared over nite stays. We helped with all activities of daily living. Prepared and shared meals with them. Drove them to doc appts, lunch/dinner and other outings. Managed the laundry and household duties. Dispensed medication including injections. Managed finances and paid bills. The time spent w/them was so rewarding. We were able to keep them in their home, which was their true wish. Recently, I was caring for an elderly wheel chair bound woman. Bathed, dressed, dispensed medication, monitored blood levels 3xs daily and injected insulin. Prepared meals and interacted with the client. Practiced physical therapy exercises. Applied compression leg sleeves to both legs 3xs a day. I watched her favorite shows with her and engaged her in active and pleasant conversation. I truly enjoyed caring for her.
