I BELIEVE in what I do. I come from a family background that taught me to care for our seniors with respect and dignity and after exploring all venues of healthcare, I always came back to this. Providing quality care, companionship, reliability, and peace of mind at THIS level is important. I am often the absentee family member or friend... the available hug or listening ear...the shoulder to cry on. I'm usually the first to know when they are hurt or hurting. I'm the nurse's extra eyes and ears. I am also their eyes and ears, their hands to eat and their legs to walk. Regardless of background, ethnicity, age or the history that comes with that age, our seniors laid the foundation for us...no matter whose back was breaking, this country was built upon it. They deserve the utmost respect and care. For our disabled community, the same. I cannot imagine what it is like for them, but I know this, not one of them woke up one day and decided to have Parkinson's, ALS, MS, or any of the others in the myriad of debilitating diseases and they cannot help what the diseases cause. Each day could bring a new loss of function or cognition, I see the pain in their eyes when they can't help themselves as they once did. My job as a CNA is to reassure and comfort them, while providing care that is discretionary, thorough, and dignified. I LOVE BEING A CNA and my prayer is to do this job as long as God will allow me to.
