Hello! My name is Colleen, I have spent many years caring for elderly family members, my 2 most recent caregiving experience would be my husband who passed away in 2018 from brain cancer at the age of 61. I provided all of his at home care, accompanied him to all of his appointments, learned how to care for wounds when he was unable to walk and ended up with a bed sore from a hospital stay, I also administered all of his medications including an iv drip. He was my best friend and companion and his cancer had progressed so quickly even after treatment that I learned everything I needed to know so he would be able to pass peacefully at home with his family.
Another, very recent experience was with my 18 year old son who was in a major auto accident in 2021. Through both of these events, I've learned to be aware of signs of distress, infections and other abnormalities in health. I have experience in wound care, changes, tracheostomy care, and recognizing discomfort along with possible brewing infections.
My grandmother was my best friend, she and I would talk on the phone for hours in the day while I was a stay-at-home mom. I enjoyed listening to all of her stories of the past, we would laugh, joke and cry with each other. I miss the connection with her. In so many ways I feel like an old soul, I've always gotten along so well with seniors, and just really enjoy the interaction.
I feel like I've come to a point in my life, now that my 4 children are adults and living their own lives, where I would like to make something I enjoy doing, central in my life, which is why I think I would be a wonderful choice to care for you or your loved one. It brings me joy to be able to help in times of need, or to just be a friend when someone wants or needs to talk.
I am able to help with daily living activities, such as hygiene, bathing/ tub transfers, dressing, assistance with walking, sitting/standing, and eating. I do not have a degree but I have years of hands on experience in all of these areas.
