Hi there! My name is Emily Slagstad. I have recently graduated from Aquinas College, with a focus in elementary education, and am very excited to begin working with a great family. I have always had a desire to work with children and to teach, but I feel that my skills would be more useful on a more personal level. Additionally, throughout my college years, I conducted my own small cleaning business, and am more than capable of assisting with home cleaning and repair. Over the years, I have babysat for a range of ages. I have cared for and mentored a 9-11-year-old girl, and I have also been blessed to work with a pair of sisters age 2 and 4 who were both very active and playful. We spent a lot of time outside when the weather permitted. However, the majority of my time caring for children has come from my college experience. I have spent countless hours in elementary classrooms from 1st through 7th grade helping students with work, homework, while organizing groups and activities, as well as managing them during my own lessons. There have been times when they have given me headaches, but I have never given up on a single one. They all start to engage eventually! Lastly, I also spent three summers working for the YMCA of Barry County as a playground camp counselor. A team of myself and five others watched a group of 20 to 40 children, ages ranging from potty trained to 12, making sure they had fun in the sun in a safe, engaging environment. Thanks for reading.
