Most of my experience comes with being a companion at times for my grandmother and at times, my uncle who was mentally ill until his passing in 2016. He was a kind person who loved to listen to jazz and say hi to passersby on his porch. My grandma lives alone and I make it a point to see her a few times a week to see how she's doing and talk about anything from the weather, family things, to various old tv shows she's inevitably watching at the time. I personally can relate well to most topics while being respectful of ones I may not understand or disagree with. Personally, I enjoy the Red Wings, Lions, music from nearly any era as my family is a musical one. I personally view that older people should have someone to chat with as it gets harder to get around or keep up on things with time. Technology changes, people get busy, life happens but to have someone to sit down with or take a walk can always be a blessing.
