I have been a caregiver on a few occasions. I have had a patient recovering from heart surgery. I have had a patient that had a leg removed due to diabetes. I have had a patient with MS and one with rheumatoid arthritis. My duties with my previous patients were as follows: giving prescribed medications, meal prep according to diet restrictions, taking to Dr visits, shopping trips, to get hair done, laundry, reading to, writing letters for, bill paying and cleaning up after myself.
I am 62 and started doing this maybe about 16 years ago. My first experience was volunteering at a retirement center when I realized how rewarding interactions with the elderly was.
