I worked at a retirement center for 3 1/2 years. I started as a manager for their on site convenience store. Every day this one particular lady would come in and we would share conversation and laughs and she would go on her way. Well months went by and our daily hellos turned into her stealing my heart. I had so much compassion for her. We exchanged phone numbers and I would call and check on her regularly and if I was absent from work she would call me to make sure I was ok. Eventually it led to me taking her to the grocery store, or out for breakfast or just riding. I knew from these moments this is what I was here for. When she got sick and was moved from her apartment to the nursing unit, I would get off work and spend the next few hours sitting by her bedside holding her hand and chatting. Then she became very ill and was hospitalized and I made sure to visit. I was by her side holding her hand and later she was gone. My heart and my personality makes me a great fit of being a caregiver. My joy is being able to be there and help any way I can.. As far as children go, I have 4 of my own and am hoping to keep a child in my home while mine are at school.
