I have cared for my Grandfather and Grandmother in Texas and a retired Marine here in North Carolina: whereas my Grandfather and Grandmother were fairly healthy in their 80s, Robert ('Papa') was 74 with both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. My tasks included simple cooking, feeding, shaving, cleaning his dishes, bathing, dressing, transportation (in wheelchairs) to the toilet and outside the home in my car to the doctor and grocery store. I also was comfortable with their long stretches of silence, yet I also enjoyed listening to them tell me about their lives.
