My name is Hill Hollowell and I am a 21-year-old senior at East Carolina University majoring in Exercise Physiology and minoring in Disability Studies. I first started working with individuals with I/DD in high school when I took a class called Physical Education Pupil Instructor where we were paired with someone with an intellectual and/or developmental disability and practiced various gym activates, sports, and Special Olympic training with them. I participated in PEPI my junior and senior year of high school and was paired with the same student both years. I developed a close relationship with him and a lot of the other I/DD students we worked with. This class showed me that I work very well with this population and opened my eyes to a career that genuinely brings me happiness. I have also spent many hours during the past two summers shadowing physical and occupational therapists at Crossway Pediatric Therapy, a clinic that primarily treats children with I/DD.
