My name is Kimberly Neal. I go to Montclair State University, I study Psychology/Art & Design and I have been diagnosed as a type 1 Diabetes and have been for 8 years. I am always very inspired to help people; for there was a time I needed help along the way and needed support through my experiences. My job experience is mainly focused on caring for seniors now as a Recreation Aide in a retirement home. As an assistant I have helped with therapeutic leisure and sensory skills/stimulation with the elderly whom have dementia and like symptoms. The residents become like family and caring for them is very important. I have certifications for my Recreation Aide job from online in-services Which gives me certificates if I pass. My training includes caring for the elderly with recreation activities (arts & crafts/physical exercises/puzzles & games/reading etc. and since I also help babysit my nephew who is now 3, I have great knowledge for helping/caring for people. I have wonderful social skills and communicate well. I am patient, reliable, helpful, fun and a good role model. I engage at the job with enthusiasm and passion. I have skills on the computer, I like healthcare and the understanding of nutrition. I have knowledge with type 1 diabetes along with testing for I have it and I help my mom take care of hers. We both take insulin shots. I have babysat for 2 years, and have many creative ideas. I love children and the elderly, and when people have difficulties, I like to be there to help and teach for it is rewarding to me. My skills at this job become part of my personality and life or having Diabetes shaped me to be responsible and mature. I accepted my condition and I embrace who I am. No one is perfect, and I have the skills to motivate individuals and aid in their fun in life. I am organized and goal oriented, and I am very trusting also. I would be proficient at all tasks for I am capable and very familiar of helping people.

I love my job because it gives me strength and encourages me. I help and work with people and it feels great. I leave work with a smile for I have made someone’s day and made someone’s life that much better which is what my job involves. I practice what I preach, which is “treat others how you want others to treat you”, which is one of the motto’s I am also inspired by. That is one reason why I help people because with me having diabetes and other factors in life that seem like burdens, someone’s help has been there for me.
