I became a caregiver by chance 3 years ago. Someone posted about needing a companion for a woman who has dementia. At our 1st meeting we hit it off right away. I enjoy our time together. We meet 3 times a week. We have gone to restaurants, parks, jersey shore, zoo, local softball games and walking at the mall to have a cup of coffee. I am a great listener and very patient with walking slow and have no problem at all hearing the same story over again. Since the 3 years I have worked with others as well. One elderly man just needed me for 3 weeks to help with his physical therapy at home and some meal prep. Another woman needed a visitor when her niece went on vacation. I enjoyed sitting and listening to her stories about her life. I also helped a gentleman with cancer - food shop, meal prep and light cleaning. All of these great people have left a mark with me. Being a part of their lives has made me a better person.
