My mother was diagnosed with cancer when I was only 10 years of age. We didn’t have much family and getting a helper or an aid was too much money for us at the moment. For months I stayed home and took care of her. Gave her the prescription medication she needed multiple times a day. Cooked for her. Fed her. Bathed her. Did her hair. Helped her walk. And accompanied her to all of her doctor or hospital visits. A similar situation happened with my grandmother and aunt as well. My grandmother was severely sick and since I had just graduate high school and the only one available, I took special care of her everyday while my dad was at work. As her illness became worse and I had to begin college, my dad retired from his job and took care of her full time. My aunt had grew a tumor on the side of her brain which caused severe headaches, dizziness, as well as other symptoms. After surgery, she was unable to do just about anything. She was a single parent and had five kids. I moved in with her for a few months and helped take care of her as well as her children and the neighbors kids as well. A year ago, I did attend a CNA program.(certified Nurse Assistant). I am currently unemployed but I do have my certification for that as well.
