Hello!
I started working at a retirement home during my junior​ year of high school and quickly learned the value of the people that I cared for. I loved interacting with the residents and hearing their stories.
After high School, and while I still worked at the retirement home, it happened that an elderly family friend needed some help. The wife had no tremor Parkinson's for 10 years and her loving husband took care of her each and every day as he was long since retired. They lived in their own home and he tended to her every need. Soon after I graduated high school, the husband suffered a minor stroke and needed someone to come live with them and help with the duties he could no longer take care of. I lived with the couple and took care of them until the day that his sweet wife passed away. He was recovered enough at that point to take care of himself so I was no longer needed.
That experience was the most wonderful thing that could have happened to me. It helped shape who I am today and I would love to get back into that sort of care giving position.
