I have worked in the caregiving field for over 18 years. I have been a CNA I have done respite care and also companion work. I am a widow 55 years old and a grandmother of two granddaughters. The reason why I am a caregiver is to be able to give back to those and help those who cannot help themselves, it gives me great joy to be able to learn from others as they learn from me. As a widow, I was a caregiver to my late husband who had cancer and died about 13 years ago. I also work as a personal care assistant as well part-time. At this point in time I'm looking to be a companion I have been Hands-On for over 18 years. Non-smoker non-drinker however I do not drive but I do have a valid driver's license. As a respite caregiver I was able to help families who wanted to go out and have what you call date night and put their mind at ease that there is a person there to be able to care for their loved one and Trust as well. I've worked in the nursing home Saratoga Hospital as well as Wesley nursing home as well as home of the Good Shepherd and also consumers Directed Choices which is now called nycd-pap. When I am not working I love to do puzzles and also go outside and walk however the majority of the time I spend working and helping to take care of others again those who cannot take care of themselves or just enjoy to have someone there to be able to talk to.
