Bethany F. Care Companion in Akron, OH 44303

Hello- I am a 41 year old single woman who lives in an apt in Akron. I enjoy nature and I love animals. I used to work long hours as a server and bartender but as I get older I need to slow down and do something less physical. I used to take care of a friend’s grandmother who had Alzheimer’s for about 7-8 months and I loved that job so much. She was very comfortable with me and I enjoyed taking care of her. I painted her nails, gave her Foot and hand massages , helped her with toileting and bathing, meals and medication reminders, dressed her, cleaned up around the house, did laundry, etc. Later on, I applied to a private home health care place and took care of a lovely elderly woman in her early 90s with stage 4 breast cancer that had metastasized and spread to several other areas in her body. She wanted to die at home so she had her children there and we acted as a hospice for her. We administered meds for her , gave her water and juice , Occasionally she took a bit of apple sauce, but she was no longer eating. I changed her undergarments while she was laying down using the assistance of a mothers pad. I massaged her all over and applied lotion and talked with her and read to her, etc. I did a lot of laundry Bc she was not in charge of her faculties any longer . I tried to help her feel dignity in her last days. We split the time between the four of us- someone was always there with her, just incase. We wrote up very detailed accounts of her breaths, her movements, everything she ingested and expelled, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was a learning experience for me. It was very hard when she passed. It was barely 3 wks I was with her but I felt a great responsibility for her from the getgo. I moved away for a bit but continued to work for the company upon my return . She didn’t have caregiving jobs available for me so I did some cleaning for the elderly , which was not what I was looking for. I wanted to spend time with seniors and help them.
