I believe my most useful qualities in this role are patience and kindness and compassion. As a caregiver at sapphire liberty I have experience working with behavioral residents as well as the elderly in memory care. There would be times the floor was short of caregivers and other staff so I would take on extra rooms. I had this one gentlemen who would always press his light for me to attend to him, but because he was experiencing memory loss and dementia, he would sometimes forget why he called me in. Sometimes he’d forget that he had just called me in not too long ago for the same thing. I always showed him kindness and patience. As a result he would request me for his caregiver over others. This is a job that requires a lot of tolerance for challenging situations, and good communication and a positive attitude also go a long way. Additionally, you need endurance and physical ability to support patients with certain tasks. Round that off with attentiveness and trustworthiness, and you've got a caregiver you can really depend on.
