Lisa’s Bio
Seeing my Nana (Great Grandmother) suffer her 23rd stroke absolutely devastated me, and I was an older teenager at the time. I took time off from school (though I maintained my academics) to care for her because I adored her and my Grandmother had limited finances. I prepared her meals and fed her; bathed her; dressed her; shared hours daily talking and singing with her; we danced when she felt up to it (I held her hands and moved her legs when she could not- she used to love to dance); I monitored and dispensed her medication; I read to her; transported her to appointments; I read to her; and every Friday evening at 7pm on (at that time) Channel 11, we watched “The Jeffersons.” Eventually, the time came and my Grandmother was financially able to, she was placed in a nursing home because her health was worsened (she was 88 years old). My heart broke. I knew she would never receive the loving care I could provide her with. I believe she passed because of a broken heart 💔. My mother was a home health provider and I would go with her to care for her patients, so I could help provide that same loving care I gave to my Nana, doing for these patients what I did for my Nana. During the summers of my remaining high school years and college years, I performed paid home health services. Though I eventually became an educator and spent several years in this field, I was unfortunately in a nearly fatal car crash and after being in a coma for several months, I did survive. This placed me in a rehabilitation facility where I witnessed the lack of loving care first hand, and it truly saddened me. In time, I developed relationships with some of my fellow patients. When I finally became able enough, though I still had a long road ahead of me, I couldn’t but help to provide that loving support, especially to those whose families had forgotten them. Of course I was a patient myself so what I could do was limited, I did hair; painted nails; applied makeup; made sure they were dressed appropriately; assisted with activities and became a master of crafts and playing Bingo lol. If I sound like someone you would like your loved one cared for, please contact me. Thank you so kindly for your consideration of my application.
