At a young age it became clear to both myself and the adults in my life that I naturally enjoy taking care of others. I am mindful with how I interact with others because I am patient and kind with myself first. This is precisely why I intended to become an elementary school teacher upon applying for undergraduate programs at various universities in the Philadelphia area.
In high school I shined as a caregiver for the children in our community that attended the daycare within our high school. I spent time planning lessons for the class and lead our group games, story time, and discussions (well, that was more like story time too! Parents, you know what I'm talking about). I grew a healthy relationship with a family that attended the daycare and became their primary caregiver for the duration of my time in high school and living in the community.
In my undergraduate program I took the time to speak not only with my professors, but with the teachers, parents and, when appropriate, the children that I interacted with and taught as part of my field studies to ensure that I was gaining varied perspectives to support having a well-rounded approach to each day in the classroom. It became clear to me, within my first two years of schooling, that teaching was not the direction my heart wanted to go. I wanted to make a difference and it truly is difficult to do that within the parameters of the public school system as it is today.
I decided to pursue another passion of mine, which is nutrition with a holistic approach, and graduated with a degree in Contemplative Studies with a focus on Nutrition and my 200 hour Yoga Teacher training certificate.
My passions may be varied but they all come down to my passion for creating healthy, happy environments where we can all prosper and thrive.
These days I write short stories, essays, and am currently working on a novel. I am also your friendly neighbor that waves every morning with a coffee cup in my hand and will happily dog sit for you while you enjoy a weekend away from the city.
