Leia’s Bio
My first job was as an assistant teacher in a first grade class and I knew straight away that I loved to work with children. From there I worked as a teacher at a daycare supervising children aged 1 month of age to 6 years of age and enjoyed moving between the rooms to work with the different ages. I also worked in after school care as well as tutored children aged 5 to 18 in English, math and science. When I started university I majored in psychology and began to do applied behavioural analysis with children on the autism spectrum. I worked and studied for 4 year and received my double degree in psychology and sociology and graduated with honours from the Australian National University. I then decided that I would love to go into the medical field and become a pediatric psychiatrist. This is what brought me to Boston all the way from Australia. I began my pre-med post baccalaureate at Harvard University and worked as a behavior technician at an elementary school in Newton before starting work as a medical secretary at a Harvard vanguard pediatric department. Now that I have finished my post-baccalaureate program, I am applying to nursing schools so that I can obtain my doctor of nurse practice and work as a pediatric psychiatrist nurse practitioner. Although my career goals have grown and changed over the years, the one constant is my love for children because of their joy, constant energy and positive world view. I have 10 years of experience working with children and that is 10 years never feeling like I was working because being with children just makes me happy and doesn't feel like a job.
