In my long time experience in home health rehab, I also saw the importance and need of caring, attentive, compassionate and patient caregiving / companionship for seniors and special needs children alike. Due to my preference for one on one, face to face care (as opposed to giving a little therapy, then doing a mountain of paperwork to justify the therapy), I decided to become a companion to seniors, kiddo's and special needs of all ages. It's work I love, I deeply care about and feel honored to do.

In my time spent with anyone, depending on their needs and ability to engage, I pursue desired activities with my client. I play, I listen, I converse, I assist, I encourage, I cheer, and I do for (when they cannot do for themselves). I'm like a chameleon, morphing myself to whatever my client needs in any given situation. I also transport to and from appointments and can do shopping.

For seniors I assist with meals, bathing and dressing, toileting and during these activities, the former occupational therapist comes out in me...encouraging them to do as much for themselves as possible. While encouraging independence, I also know when to jump in and help. Striking a balance between the two is key for seniors, for when they maintain their independence as much as possible, their self-worth and self-esteem is also held intact.
