I have recently located from Massachusetts to South Carolina. My boyfriend and I came down to get away from the New England winters, and also to start fresh. I have always been in the office or restaurant environment and those have not been very satisfying to me. My son left for the military in January 2015, and we lost our dog in September 2015. It was a really rough year.
I want to help people. I do not have very formal experience.
I did work in a nursing home in the 90's and loved it. I started in the kitchen and we served residents their meals. We would assist them with what we could, we even fed them if they couldn't feed themselves. My maternal great grandmother had dementia and I would care for her in her home. My paternal grandmother had a lot of health issues, from breast cancer to dementia. She could not walk and had a colostomy bag. My family had a schedule to take care of her as we did not want her in a nursing home. My grandfather did not have any health issues, however when he was unable to drive, I would take him to his appointments, to the bank, out to eat and help around his apartment.
I am looking for a career that will allow me to go home at night and know that I helped someone. I am willing to do any necessary training or schooling to have this dream come true.
