Jamie’s Bio
Hello! I am a lifelong Memphian, a college grad, and a well seasoned mother of two. I have been working as a private caregiver for 5 years. I began working in senior living in 2007. I had helped care for my own grandmother during her battle with dementia and hospice care, and I honestly feel that I am drawn to this line of work to honor her and to give people like her the experience they deserve. I was seeking a social service position and wound up working with seniors. I have been a Service Coordinator (subspecialty of social work relating to HUD housing), an Activities Director, Community Relations Director, and have managed two assisted living Alzheimer's units. During that period of time I completed 96 hours of continuing education relating to issues of aging: common medical and psychological issues, Medicare, common medications, resources. I have received certificates from the Alzheimer's Association in activities and ran a support group for family caregivers under their umbrella.
I made the change to private care out of a desire to not only have more control over my own time, but to do as much for one person at a time as I can, to REALLY make a difference in their life and not just fight an uphill battle managing chaos without budgetary support. It is the most meaningful thing that I have done with my time other than raising my own children, of course.
