Sheila P. Care Companion in Palmyra, VA 22963

I come from a large family with many Aunts and Uncles. 23 to be exact. We are a close family that has depended on each other to take care of family. I have experience in taking care of my Aunt who was paralyzed in a car accident from the neck down. This included feeding, bathing, and dressing her. Also turning her so that she would not get bed sores, cleaning and changing her colostomy bag, and taking care of her catheter. Keeping her company and smiling was the first priority, as should could do nothing on her own.
I also cared for my Grandmother, who lived to be 95. She was in perfect health until she fell chasing one of the great grand children and broke both wrists. After this she became fearful of hurting herself, and unfortunately, quit moving around like she once did. This caused her body to become fragile and weak. I was responsible for getting her out of bed, bathing her, and dressing her. Helping her to the living room, where she spent most of her days. I fed her and helped with bathroom needs. She was weak in body, but very strong and wise in mind. She was very nervous and timid over who she let care for her as she was terrified of being "dropped". I prepared her meals, cleaned house, did laundry, and watched a lot of "Golden Girls" and "The Price is Right". These were a few of her favorite shows. We did breakfast, lunch, and dinner together. And at the end of the day, I would get her ready for bed, and lay her down.
I do not have a degree in nursing or anything of that nature. I guess you could call my experience "Life".
