I have just earned my Masters of Fine Arts in Poetry at The New School in New York City. Originally born and raised in Souther California, I have lived in Oxford, England, Albuquerque, NM, Santa Cruz, CA, and of course NYC. , I am well-travelled and diverse in my education and interests. I am now living in Altadena and searching for employment while I apply to PhD programs.
I have been babysitting since I was 13, 12 years, children from infants to young adults. I have over night experience, house-sitting experience, feel comfortable working in the presence of parents, and generally enjoy the company of children. I am adept at traveling with multiple children throughout New York City's streets, subways, and busses including school pick-up, doctors appointments, playdates, errands, and oh-so-many parks.
I have a strong arts background, growing up in gifted classes my education was always arts-oriented. As a result, I have a great deal of arts education experience which is useful in childcare, so that time can be spent learning and growing intellectually as well as having fun. I have also worked in several non-profit arts education programs, including one at a local museum in which I taught a group of five nine year old (ESL) children about reading and creative writing. I also led an afterschool art camp class of thirty 3rd to 5th graders, teaching art history with corresponding educational projects.
My strong cultural background in Japanese studies and Africana studies has given me a diverse set of influences and interests. I am happy to include interactive cultural activities to liven up play-time.
*Experience with administering medications after parent's specific guidelines. In my most recent position, I cared for a boy with SVT (Supraventricular tachycardia ) who was very healthy but did require oral medications during my shift as well as doctor's appointments and keeping an eye open for emergencies.
