Hello Chicago parents ! I’m Kaela and I’m 28 years old and I am a Senior at Columbia College studying filmmaking in various technical aspects and YES am fully COVID VACCINNATED and TRIPLE BOOSTED w PFIZER! I have larger history in childcare prior to my move to Chicago in 2021 where I worked through the pandemic in a reputable houseless shelter in Seattle called Mary’s Place. Prior to the pandemic my experience jumping off nannying since my teens turned into au pairing in France for 2 years as well as tutoring in English. Ryther Child Center in Seattle was one of the last inpatient facilities catering to theee kids before I unfortunately saw it’s decline due to lack of care and attention by the local government for these kiddos- I was furious for them to say the least. Through this job I was certified in trauma informed care and de-escalation to prevent these kids from harming themselves and other kids and adults around them. As I mentioned I was an au pair and I lived in north France near Mt Jura and then moved down to Nice and continuing tutoring and continued school in French literature with my visa extension. So I speak French as well as English. My passions are playing music, writing and generally picking up a camera or sound equiptment and making something beautiful. My childcare philosophy is very play-based and explorative, I don't believe in punishment by shaming and comparing their behaviors to any orher “standards”. I am definitely neurodiverse and very proud of that. My goal is when a child is not doing a desired task or refusing to, I like to get in there head and keep a flat and factual affect so that the child may think for themselves and learn their own boundaries that work for them and I will adapt accordingly because I respect a child's mind as I would an adult's and of course check in with parents about their methods so we can stay consistent with them. I have been working with children for roughly 10 years now and i always come out of each job having learned so much about the child, a new sense of family dynamics and new ways going forward to better communication. I have many years of experience with children in a wide range of settings, including many years of babysitting for families in their homes, working as a summer camp counselor, as an assistant teacher in a daycare, and volunteering in two elementary schools.
