Hi my name is Melissa. For the past eight months I've been working as a direct support specialist and a camp counselor at Ramapo for Children in Rhinebeck, NY. But I have decided that I needed a change of pace and direction. Due to my new position as a direct support specialist, I feel as though I haven't had enough time to connect with the kids I work with anymore and the demand of the job and lack of quality has become a burden to me..

I am the mother of five children who are all grown up now and out in the world.i have recently retired from nursing and now I want to take care of children. I love being with children, playing with them, reading to them, talking with them and keeping them safe. I was able to stay at home while my children were growing up. One of my pregnancies produced twins. A boy and girl. That was interesting. I homeschooled one of my boys who needed to grow up a little more before being comfortable away from home. I had my children in Montessori education as long as I was able and was active in their education. In nursing I worked with both well babies and sick ones. Loads of experience. Lots of memories. I would like to help parents feel comfortable and confident that I will do my best by their children.

I have worked with children in formal and informal settings since 2004. I've been a nanny, teacher, assistant teacher, babysitter, curriculum consultant, activity planner, camp organizer and counselor, roller skating instructor and everything in between! Having specialized in both early childhood education and working with youth, I am experienced with a range of ages. The youngest child I worked with was 2 weeks old, I have babysat up to age 11, and have worked with developmentally delayed highschoolers (up to age 22).  I am experienced caring for twins (infant and school age) and multiples, and have traveled extensively with families I worked for. I genuinely enjoy being able to provide active, creative, fun, educational, (and safe!) activities that foster all aspects of a child's growth and development.  I am Massachusetts Preschool Teacher Certified, trained in CPR, First AID, special needs (developmental, emtional, and physical), and have taken care of MANY sick children (one family had me as their emergency contact at their kids' school and another family had me nanny for their 1.5 year old while she was in an almost-full body cast after fracturing her leg!).
