Hi, my name is Valerie and I am interested in part-time childcare work. I am a mom of 5 Vikings ( as my husband and I call them). My two oldest have moved out, and I have 2 in High School and 1 in Community College. I have been a stay-at-home mom for (most of) 23 yrs. When I realized that my kids would rather be with their friends I decided it was time to get out of the house. My neighbor agreed and offered me up as a nanny for friends of hers. I obtained my CPR certification and accepted a temporary Nanny position, part-time, for an infant. I so enjoyed my time with a little again! My position ended when circumstances changed and the family moved from the area. Since that first job, I’ve had a family in town for two days for work and hired me to care for their infant for a few days. Then two very lovely families who each only needed me part of the week became my primary jobs. One family had a toddler girl and the other a toddler boy. Both of those children will begin a school/daycare program this August, so I currently have days to fill. Pre-Husband and Vikings, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Earth Science at Central Michigan University. Being a bit of a wanderer, I found myself in Chicago working at an Ad Agency! My family and I moved to Greensboro about 8yrs ago, and we enjoy having both mountains and Ocean available for our adventures. I enjoy getting outdoors daily, and perhaps it’s the Earth Science background, but I love taking the little ones outside and introducing them to the trees, flowers, birds, whatever we come across. Kids are such natural sponges, they soak it all in. Having the opportunity to smell or touch or hold something greatly improves their understanding, and I like to introduce words such as rough or smooth to help them be able to learn the difference and to describe what they feel.

I worked in a daycare for 10 years which I planned everyday activities, cooked, cleaned made sure the parents had something to take home everyday. I talked with children on a eye to eye level. I believe that the way you interact with a child and the way you show success to a child will be their guide in life. I worked for a company called Feed the children for ten years which was a Monday through Friday care for children & also on the weekend where we cooked, boxed,packaged and spent the summer times of each year with children.

I currently live in Winston-Salem and I am looking for some part-time work outside of my full-time job. I do not have much experience with keeping kids but I love kids and would like to help a family in need. I have done some nanny work in the past but it was years ago. I can help with cleaning, errands, cooking etc. I am dependable and would love to help you and your family.

I have been told that I'm the "best nanny ever" by the kids and parents I've worked with in the past. I first began childcare by volunteering at the church nursery when I was 12, and continued on into high school. I started occasionally babysitting for family and friends in high school. I enjoyed babysitting a lot more than my part-time job so I decided to pick up more hours. Since then, I have looked after children from age 6 mo-12 years old. I have helped many families in the area depending on their specific needs. I would love to find another nanny position long term on a part-time or full time basis.
